Baton Rouge's Best Raccoon Control:
It is common for wildlife who take up residence in your attic or walls to leave behind droppings and urine. These leftovers from bats, squirrels, raccoons, raccoons, and other critters can lead to odor and mold issues, as well as potentially carry disease, depending on the animal. A key part of our dead animal removal services is odor control, which helps ensure your property does not have an unpleasant smell that reminds you of the dead animal. We are Louisiana's top experts in wildlife and raccoon control. We are not a typical Baton Rouge raccoon control or pest control company. We don't treat wild animals like insects, because they are not! You can't just use poison to get rid of them. You also can't just set a few traps on the ground and call it good. Each situation is unique. And remember, if you have raccoons living in your house, it is almost certainly a female with a litter of young inside. These juveniles must be removed by hand, or they will starve to death and die. And after they are gone, the entry holes into the house must be sealed with professional repairs. Unlike most Baton Rouge pest control, we focus on complete and permanent solutions, by following these steps:
- Inspect the entire house, ground to roof, and the attic
- Seal shut all entry areas with professional grade steel
- If in attic, we remove the baby raccoons by hand
- Technical and human raccoon trapping appropriate to situation
- When necessary, we clean raccoon droppings and replace insulation
Baton Rouge Raccoon Control Tip: Can Animal Repellents Get Raccoons Out Of Your Chimney?
There are several animal species that can prove to be a nuisance if they find their way into your property, and raccoons are among the most common species that a home owner may have to deal with. They aren't the only species that can make a nest in a chimney however, with squirrels also common, and even birds and bats able to use a chimney as a potential nesting spot, so make sure you identify that raccoons are indeed causing the problem. Animal repellents are naturally an attractive proposition, as they offer a clean way of getting rid of pest animals without having direct contact with them, but the real question is whether they will work at getting rid of raccoons.
The Different Types Of Repellent Available
You will find several different types of repellent available through your hardware store or garden center, with the first being chemical repellents that produce a smell that is said to be very unpleasant for the raccoon, driving it away from the area. You will also find devices available that produce a high pitched sound, which claims to be unbearable for the raccoons that will force them to leave for a less uncomfortable nesting spot. The third type of repellent is eviction fluid, which includes the scent of a male raccoon, which is also said to drive raccoons away to another nesting spot.
The Problems Of Audio And Chemical Repellents
When you are considering how effective audio and chemical repellents can be, it is important to remember that they are ultimately designed to make the area unpleasant enough to force the raccoon to leave. There will often be many factors including shelter, having a dry area to sleep and also the security of a confined nesting spot that will be attracting a raccoon to stay in the area. For this reason, this type of repellent can often prove to be ineffective at getting rid of raccoons in the chimney, as they may not feel the unpleasant scent or sound is worth leaving the area for, and will simply tolerate that inconvenience in order to retain their attractive nesting spot.Using Eviction Fluid
Eviction fluid is a different type of repellent, and essentially it will only really work in the scenario where you are dealing with a female raccoon that has a nest of babies that is nesting in the chimney. The eviction fluid is made using a combination of male raccoon urine and some of the fluid that is produced in a male raccoon's glands, which makes for a fluid that has rather a potent scent. However, the main reason this can be effective if you are dealing with a nursing female is that male raccoons will kill the offspring of other males, so can make the female feel that her young are at risk, and this can lead to the female leaving to find another nesting spot.
Alternative Methods Of Dealing With A Raccoon Infestation
Repellents may not be the most dependable of solutions for a raccoon infestation, but if you are looking for another way of resolving the problem, then trapping is often the most effective solution. Essentially, you will need to find the area the raccoons are using to get in and out of the chimney, which is usually through an open chimney pot, and then install a trap over the opening to catch the raccoon as it leaves. You should then check the chimney flue to see if there are baby raccoons to remove as well, and then remove the raccoon along with any babies and relocate them to an area where they are no longer a problem. Once you have removed the raccoons from the chimney, make sure the flue is cleaned, and that a chimney cap is installed over the top of the chimney.
